MB Ramos | Studio #7 | 6715 Guadalupe Tr NW
MB Ramos is a visual artist based in Albuquerque, NM. She was born in Nantucket, MA and raised along the shores of the Atlantic Ocean.
She studied painting and land art at NISDA in Nantucket, ceramics and painting at Mass College of Art in Boston and Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax. Along the way she worked and apprenticed with fiber artists, leatherworkers, sail making and upholstery studios and jewelry artists. Her travels eventually lead her to New Mexico, where she went on to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Studio from the University of New Mexico College of Fine Arts. She operated her own small jewelry business and raised a family while studying with master metalsmiths far and wide to learn specialized techniques of hand forming, casting, raising, forging, leaded enameling, chasing and repoussé. In recent years she has rekindled her interest in painting and sculpture and continues her practice of metalworking.
MB creates jewelry using hammers and stakes, anvils and torches to shape and form metal in traditional ways. She works with precious metals, like sterling and fine silver and combines them with gold, glass, gemstones and non-traditional materials and collected objects. She designs and creates wearable pieces, often with a specific person in mind. Sometimes a memory, an event and a connection with a feeling or place will spark her next piece. She finds inspiration in the natural world and our place in it.
