Laverne Bohlin’s paintings have been described as tranquil, serene and peaceful. Her work is informed by the immediate landscape and emphasizes the effects of light and the shapes or patterns that exist in nature. Her working process begins with a small plein air oil sketch or casein study and photographs. Applying the oil or pastel in a soft, contemporary impressionist style, the sketches are used to develop larger paintings.

Primarily a landscape painter, she also develops abstract work that evokes flowers in their environment or the local landscape. Laverne received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Michigan, was employed as a residential landscape designer and has taught landscape design and pastel drawing workshops. She is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of New Mexico.
