After receiving a BFA in Studio Art from the University of Arizona in 1976, I was accepted into the master's program in painting and drawing at UNM and completed an MA in 1980 and an MFA in 1982. I have lived in Albuquerque ever since – most of that time in the north valley. The inspiration for my work comes from the beauty of the desert Southwest, both New Mexico and Arizona – especially the light, sunsets, cloud formations and water. Having spent my working years as a graphic designer at both UNM and the University of Arizona I didn't have much time to paint but the year of social distancing during the pandemic (and semi-retirement) prompted me to set up my studio after a long hiatus and paint again on a daily basis. I'm excited to have the chance to share my recent work and studio space during the Studio Tour. My wife, Karen Reck, will be showing her exquisite jewelry as well.
